Many providers and practice managers ask these and other important questions about cloud security.<\/p>\n<p>We recently asked Saul Waizer, CareCloud\u2019s Director of Cloud Technologies, for some answers.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Q: What\u2019s the number one question you get about cloud security? <\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_15196\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15196\" style=\"width: 246px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.carecloud.com\/continuum\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Saul_Waizer_security.png\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-15196\" src=\"https:\/\/www.carecloud.com\/continuum\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Saul_Waizer_security.png\" alt=\"Saul Waizer at CareCloud\" width=\"246\" height=\"273\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-15196\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Saul Waizer, CareCloud&#8217;s Director of Cloud Technologies<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>A:<\/strong> \u2018Is my data safe?\u2019 \u2014 usually followed by \u2018Where is my data?\u2019 You cannot even compare the level of security with cloud-based security versus storing data on premises in a medical office. Most cloud-based vendors \u2014 including CareCloud \u2014 store information in highly secure data centers. Armed security guards, motion activated cameras and many additional protections make these large, dedicated centers more secure than smaller storage facilities or medical offices.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q: How do you respond to physicians who believe locking up a server in their office is more secure than the cloud?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>A:<\/strong> Some physicians want additional reassurance about security before they modernize to cloud-based practice software. All doctors need to protect patient information at all times. But let\u2019s say it\u2019s a plastic surgeon whose patients are exceptionally concerned about privacy. This surgeon might feel safer storing sensitive medical information in a computer they can actually see and touch in their office. But I would ask: \u2018Is the server in a locked closet?\u2019 \u2018Do armed security guards protect the data?\u2019 Commonly, the answer to both of these questions is \u2018no.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Next I would ask: \u2018What is preventing anyone who knows what you do from breaking into your office and taking your computers?\u2019 While moving beyond the office server might be scary, I find describing the security checks and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coram.ai\/access-control\">access controls<\/a> required to gain entry to a secure data center facility helps them make an educated decision about moving to the cloud.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q: What are the leading benefits of cloud security for physicians and their practices?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>A: <\/strong>There are many advantages, including:<\/p>\n<p><strong>* Guarded data<\/strong> \u2013 Whether we are talking about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.verizonenterprise.com\/infrastructure\/data-centers\/\"><strong>Verizon Terremark<\/strong><\/a> or another cloud enabled data center \u2013 most have multiple layers of physical security. They use motion controlled cameras; access control lists that restrict entry to a very limited number of people; and even those few allowed in are closely monitored while on premises.<\/p>\n<p><strong>* Data Redundancy<\/strong> \u2013 Some medical providers store all their information on a single computer in their office. They might feel better about EHR security with data backed up to an external drive, but that also can be stolen. With CareCloud, a redundant copy of your data gets automatically stored in multiple, secure locations.
