The 2015 HIMSS Cybersecurity Survey shows 42% of 297 respondents believe there are too many emerging and new threats to track.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe recent breaches in the healthcare industry have been a wake-up call that patient and other data are valuable targets and healthcare organizations need a laser focus on cybersecurity threats,\u201d says Lisa Gallagher, HIMSS Vice President of Technology Solutions.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Notable Findings<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>* Healthcare organizations use an average of 11 different technologies to secure their environment<br \/>\n* 80% rely on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.networkmonitoring.org\/\">network monitoring<\/a> to detect and investigate data security events<br \/>\n* 64% feel a lack of cybersecurity personnel is a barrier to addressing future events (although more than half have hired full-time cybersecurity personnel, a majority feels even that may be insufficient)<\/p>\n<p>Despite a majority making improvements to network security, disaster recovery, and data loss protection, most respondents reported only an \u201caverage level of confidence\u201d in their organization\u2019s capabilities for protecting data and IT infrastructure.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Possible High-Level Solution<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Given these findings, outsourcing your patient data security strategy to a cloud-based vendor might make sense.
