What Support is Offered? <\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even with a smoothly operating EHR, issues are bound to arise from time to time. Having available and useful customer service is vital to get the most from your EHR. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Questions for the EHR vendor: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What support can we expect before, during and after implementation? <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do you offer free, unlimited support? If not, what fees are associated? <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do you offer live support? If we need help during non-business hours are there webinars, forums, videos, etc. available? <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When issues arise, how will you help resolve them? <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4. What Kind of Transition Should We Expect? <\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As efficiency is key to a smooth-running medical practice, you\u2019ll want an EHR that can be quickly implemented. Cloud-based EHRs prevent having to buy new hardware and install new systems and can be up and running in minimal time. Is the EHR Certified? <\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Practices need an EHR that stores information correctly in a structured format. Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cms.gov\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CMS<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthit.gov\/topic\/about-onc\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ONC<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) have criteria and standards for data that EHRs must follow in order to participate in government-sponsored incentive programs. To qualify for Meaningful Use (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs) payments, your EHR must be properly certified.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Questions for the EHR vendor: <\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Is this EHR Meaningful Use certified? <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What Meaningful Use programs can we participate in with this EHR? <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now that you have some criteria to consider, you can start searching for your next EHR. Finding the best fit for your medical practice will go a long way in increasing the efficiency of your day-to-day operations.
