{"id":536,"date":"2011-07-22T15:12:37","date_gmt":"2011-07-22T19:12:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.poweryourpractice.com\/?p=536"},"modified":"2025-06-03T11:11:55","modified_gmt":"2025-06-03T11:11:55","slug":"young-patients-want-to-connect-with-doctors-using-technology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carecloud.com\/continuum\/young-patients-want-to-connect-with-doctors-using-technology\/","title":{"rendered":"Young Patients Want to Connect with Doctors Using Technology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Physicians looking to <strong>better manage the care of patients age 18-26<\/strong> should turn to technology to connect with this often elusive patient population, according to an American Academy of Family Physicians survey.<\/p>\n<p>The survey found that 68% of these patients are likely or very likely to use email communication with their doctor, which could help practices develop long-term patient relationships early.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Patient Benefits<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8220;Young adults want to establish an ongoing relationship with a primary care physician,\u201d Roland Goertz, MD, MBA, president of the AAFP said in a statement. \u201cBy setting this foundation of care, they are building toward a healthy future.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Young adults are increasingly turning to social networking sites, email and instant messages to contact and stay in touch with each other, so making your practice available to your patients where they are comfortable communicating can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carecloud.com\/continuum\/improve-patient-experience-increase-profits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">improve patient experiences and outcomes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The benefits of embracing technology extend beyond helping young patients; it can also lead to less work for you and your staff.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Provider Benefits<\/strong><br \/>\nAccording to the survey, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aafp.org\/online\/etc\/medialib\/aafp_org\/documents\/press\/pressreleases\/young-adult-insurance-coverage-executive-final.Par.0001.File.tmp\/young-adult-insurance-coverage-executive-final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">72% of young adults are likely or very likely to utilize online scheduling<\/a> and 79% are likely or very likely to use e prescribing, which could help reduce tedious tasks for your team.<\/p>\n<p>With 36% of young adults responding \u201cI only go to the doctor if I am extremely sick,\u201d it\u2019s not surprising that same-day appoints were likely or very likely to be utilized by 83% of those surveyed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe good news for these young people is that those services are increasingly part of family physicians\u2019 practices,\u201d Roland Goertz, MD, MBA, president of the AAFP, said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSixty-two percent of family physicians do provide same-day appointments and 30 percent correspond with patients via e-mail.
