If you’re counting on earning 2012 Meaningful Use incentives from Medicare, but have yet to implement an EHR system in your practice, your time is running out.

No, CMS hasn’t moved up the attestation deadline. You can file your attestation online on December 31 and still earn the maximum payout amount for 2012.

But it’s not quite as simple as filling out a form and earning money just because you bought an EHR. You can only attest for Meaningful Use after using your EHR for a full ninety days.

That means you must start “meaningfully using” a system by October 3, at the latest.

Think October still sounds like a ways away? It isn’t – especially considering that EHR implementation cycles tend to take, at minimum, about 50 days, depending on the size and needs of a practice.

October 3 is only 56 days away. If you’ve yet to select an EHR, the clock is ticking.

But it’s not too late to get your plans in place when it comes to Meaningful Use. Check out CareCloud’s new Meaningful Use Cheat Sheet to get comfortable with the basics of the program, learn how to get your incentive money, and find out how much cash you’ll be due if you meet CMS’ criteria. And get to shopping, ASAP.

Keep in mind that if you select a flexible, cloud-based solution, you’ll enjoy a seamless onboarding process and easy-to-learn EHR functionality. Those benefits make it simple to get up and running quickly – in time to get paid in full for 2012.
